(Frequently Asked Questions)

Where can I buy your books?
Almost all of my books can be found in major book store chains such as Barnes and Noble and Borders. If you do not see them on the shelf, most book stores will order the books for you at no extra charge, and call you when the books come in. Maybe the easiest way to get my books is through www.amazon.com. Ordering is easy, and the books are almost always in stock.

Can you come visit my school?
I enjoy making classroom visits. Please click on the link for School, Library and Bookstore Appearances for more information.

How did you think up all of those Pokémon?
Pokémon was created in Japan by a man named Satoshi Tajiri. It is my job to write books in English about the characters, television episodes, and movies. Please click on the Pokémon Page link for more information.

Where do you get your ideas?
My ideas for original stories usually come from experiences and people in my life, or from things I am interested in. For example, I have always been interested in fairies and fairy lore. That interest led to the idea for the Pixie Tricks series.

When I am writing a story and I’m not sure how to solve a problem or plot the story, I like to take long walks with my dogs. This usually empties my mind of other things, and the ideas just pop in.

Where do you live?
I have one brother and one sister who are younger than I am. They are both grown up and married. I am grown up and married, too, and my husband’s name is Bill. I am a stepmom to Bill’s three kids, Will, Shannon, and Zane, who are all in elementary school.

What is your family like?
I have one brother and one sister who are younger than I am. They are both grown up and married. I have two nieces, Lauren and Julia, and a nephew named Daniel. At home, I live with my three dogs (see the next question).

Do you have any pets?
Yes. We have one cat named Katie who sits on top of my computer when I write. We also have a dog named Ginger who loves to jump up on you and lick your face; and and chihuahua named Pee Wee barks all day.

What are your hobbies?
I like to read, walk my dogs, hike in the woods, and watch cartoons. I have a big comic book collection but I don’t collect them much anymore because they take up too much room. I also collect elf and pixie figures, and I enjoy making tiny pixie dolls from scratch. I like reading about and investigating strange and mysterious things; if I could have another job, I’d love to study parapsychology and hunt ghosts and Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster.

What was your favorite book when you were a kid?
It’s hard to choose, but Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh is a book I can read over and over again. I also fell in love with two books called The Silver Nutmeg and Beyond the Paw Paw Trees by a man named Palmer Brown. Other favorite authors include Zilpha Keatley Snyder, Roald Dahl, and Ellen Raskin.
