Dragoncraft1We still haven’t heard the story of Vulcan, Rori’s fire-breathing dragon. But you can make up a story of your own with the help of this fire-breathing dragon craft. There are versions of this all over the web but I made this one at a Dragon Masters book signing. They came out great!

You will need:

1 paper cup in your favorite color
2 googly eyes (1/2” works well)
2 pom-poms (1/2”)
Yellow, red, and orange crepe paper
Construction paper
Glue stick or tape
Tacky glue
Scissors
Marker
Pencil

1. Start the head: The paper cup is the head of your dragon. With a sharp pencil, poke a hole in the bottom of the cup and make it wide enough for you to blow through.
2. Make the eyes: glue one googly eye to each pom-pom with tacky glue. Glue the pom-poms to the cup.
3. Make the ears: cut ears shapes from construction paper and use a glue stick or tape to attach them.
4. Make the nose: Draw on two nostrils with a nostril.
5. Make the fire: Cut 8-10 strips out of the crepe paper that are 8” long and about 1” wide. Use a glue stick to attach them all around the inside of the cup so that they stick out.
6. Breathe fire: Wait until your dragon is completely dry. Then blow through the hole in the back of the cup to make the crepe paper strips wiggle like flames!
